Why uBlock Origin isn't on iOS
Apple deliberately limits iOS browser extensions. Safari content blockers can only deliver a static rule file, no scripting, no dynamic filtering, no anti-anti-adblock heuristics like uBlock Origin uses on desktop. That's why no real port of uBO exists for iPhone. The most popular actual iOS Safari content blockers are 1Blocker, AdGuard, and Wipr.
talavo goes around the limitation by being its own browser, full control of the rendering pipeline, hand-tuned rules for YouTube specifically.

Where 1Blocker wins
- Custom rules. If you like writing CSS selectors to hide specific page elements yourself, 1Blocker has the best DIY editor on iOS. talavo's rules are curated, not user-editable.
- It plugs into Safari. If switching browsers is a dealbreaker, 1Blocker layers on Safari without making you change. talavo can't.
- System firewall. 1Blocker can block trackers system-wide via a Network Extension. talavo only blocks ads inside its own browser.
Where talavo wins
- YouTube actually works. Shorts hidden, comments silenced, pre-roll blocked. With 1Blocker you'd have to write each rule yourself.
- Picture-in-Picture and background audio. Built into the browser. 1Blocker is a content blocker, it doesn't change video playback at all.
- Sleep timer. Built-in. 1Blocker has nothing equivalent.
- It's free. $0 vs $14.99/year. Even if you upgrade to Premium ($0.99/mo) you'll spend about $12/year, still cheaper than 1Blocker.
Who should use which
Use 1Blocker if you want a Safari extension with custom rule editing and a system-wide firewall, and you're fine paying $15/yr for it.
Use talavo if YouTube is your problem and you want pre-built Zen toggles, PiP, background audio, and a sleep timer for free.
FAQ
Is there a real uBlock Origin port for iOS?
No. Apple's content-blocker API can't support what uBlock Origin does on desktop. Anyone claiming to be "uBlock for iPhone" is either renamed or fake. Closest real options: 1Blocker, AdGuard, Wipr, talavo.
Can talavo import 1Blocker rules?
Not currently. talavo's rules are curated by us. If there's strong demand for custom rule support, we'll consider it.
Should I run both?
Sure, 1Blocker for Safari, talavo for YouTube. No conflict.
