Does talavo actually block YouTube ads?
Yes. Pre-roll, mid-roll, and banner ads are blocked before they load, so videos start instantly with no skip button to wait for. We hand-tune the rules for YouTube and YouTube Music, where ads hide hardest, and update them as YouTube changes. The same engine blocks ads and trackers on every other site too.
Does background and lock-screen playback work?
Yes. Audio keeps playing when you lock the phone, switch apps, or turn off the screen, with full lock-screen and Control Center controls. Picture-in-Picture works too, and the sleep timer can count down in a Live Activity on your Lock Screen. It runs on YouTube, YouTube Music, and streaming sites Safari blocks from playing in the background.
Can I sign in to my YouTube account?
Yes. Sign in to YouTube or Google the normal way and your subscriptions, playlists, watch history, and recommendations all come with you. talavo opens the real YouTube, it doesn't proxy or re-host anything, so your account behaves exactly as it does in Safari. talavo itself never sees your Google password.
Will YouTube ban my account for blocking ads?
We haven't seen it happen. talavo blocks ad requests at the network layer, the same way a Safari content blocker does, and never modifies YouTube's code, automates your account, or touches your login. Ad blocking also works whether or not you are signed in. We can't speak for YouTube's future policies, but nothing talavo does is tied to your account.
Does it work on sites other than YouTube?
Yes. talavo is a full browser, so every site loads and ad and tracker blocking runs everywhere. The deeper tuning, hiding Shorts and comments, background audio, and the mini-player, is built around YouTube, YouTube Music, and Reddit, but the sleep timer, floating preview tabs, incognito, Split Screen and Zen+ work on any site.
Does talavo work on iPad?
Yes. talavo runs natively on iPhone and iPad with iOS 17 or later, and one App Store download covers both.
Does talavo work on Android or Windows?
Not yet. talavo is built on Apple's native content-blocker APIs which don't exist on Android or Windows. A simpler Android port is on the long-term roadmap but not committed.
Do I have to pay for anything?
No. Ad blocking, Zen Mode, background playback, Picture-in-Picture, the sleep timer, floating tabs, downloads and bookmarks are free, forever. The free version shows one brief ad when you open the app. talavo Pro, $0.99 a month or $9.99 a year, removes it and adds Split Screen, Corner Player, Zen+, Shortcut Locks, dark themes and app icons. Every install starts with a 14-day Pro trial with no card, and afterwards you can keep the free version for as long as you like.
What happens when the 14-day trial ends?
Nothing to cancel. The trial needs no card, so it simply ends: Pro features lock again, the launch ad comes back, and everything free keeps working. You can upgrade to talavo Pro from the app whenever you want.
Can talavo download videos?
talavo downloads the files a website offers, like PDFs, audio, and video files, saves them to the Files app, and plays them with a built-in player, even offline. It does not rip videos from YouTube or other streaming sites.
How is this different from Brave or AdGuard?
Brave is a generic browser. AdGuard is a Safari plugin. talavo is opinionated, it blocks Shorts, comments, community posts, and ad-spawning redirects in addition to ads, and ships with a sleep timer, floating preview tabs, and Split Screen. Narrower scope, deeper integration.
What data does talavo collect?
A device ID so we know whether you have talavo Pro or a trial. Your settings, shortcuts, bookmarks, and history live on your phone only. Zero analytics on what you watch, what you visit, or who you are. The free version shows ads from Google AdMob, and the iOS tracking prompt lets you decide whether they are personalized. How do I cancel talavo Pro?
iOS Settings → your name → Subscriptions → talavo → Cancel. Pro features lock again at the end of the billing period and the launch ad comes back. Everything free keeps working.
